It may only be 1 Waxwing but......

Almost unheard of, a Waxwing in Cornwall.  It didn't take long for the word to get around and the local birders to get down to the car park of the farm shop where the bird was.

My friend took these photos.

  • Fab photos.

There should be a group 'Haven't seen the flippin' waxwings yet!!' Anyone interested in joining me?

(Actually, waxwings aren't flippin' and they're lovely - but it's annoying that I haven't seen it yet - I live in Oxford and there's (apparently) some around!)

'Dip a dee dah, dip a dee ay, we're not seeing any birds to-day...'

    Hi Tern

May I please join the HSTFWY Club too!!

    No show in West Lancashire.

It helps to see such fabulous photos. Thanks Cottagegardener for sharing these with us.

Along with Buzzard's wonderful photos (and others too) those of us who have missed out can at least enjoy some fantastic second hand views.

    Cheers

    Pipit xx

  • For the first time, we saw two waxwings in our garden here in St Arvans (near Chepstow) yesterday. There was still a lot of lying snow on the ground and they were here all day eating a apple that I had put out for the blackbirds.

They seem to be spreading all over the country - I've yet to see one - darn it.

Blimey TJ - I thought it was just me who hadn't seen one (until today anyway).

There already is one on Twitter its #thenotseenawaxwingclub if you copy and paste it into the search box.

When you see a waxwing you leave the club, alas I'm still firmly rooted. Apparently they are all round my neighbourhood but I've not seen them.

Did see a likely flock last week whilst i'm driving along the ring road, bit it was a bit impossible to turn round, although I did but when I eventually got back to the location they where long gone.

Not likely to see one over Xmas as i'm stuck indoors writing 2 huge bits of College work for my course due in soon.

Ho Hum, back to writing about Fungi.!

Keep your sightings coming in folks..!

For some reason my browser had blocked these images so I couldn't see them but now I've managed to unblock them.

Absolutely top class photos. I'm so envious. I've yet to see one let alone photograph it.

    Hi-

I notice Wild about Britain website has a Waxwing watch thread-  I googled 'Waxwing Berkshire 2010' and got a list of sightings.

    Any good to you ?

We have 2 waxwings feeding off the hawthorn berries in our front garden here on the Isle of Wight. I have never seen one before so delighted that they keep returning every few hours to feed. We first spotted them on Boxing day and have seen them everyday since.
