There is a pair of Mute Swans locally that have attempted to nest by a pond in the middle of a housing estate where I live but there is nowhere suitable for a nest, due to the pond having a fence all the way around it. Last year they went to another local but more remote pond and hatched 7 cygnets. As soon as they were able to waddle, the parents walked the babies back to the other pond where they knew they would get more attention and food given to them. This was maybe a mile or just over and involved crossing several roads. They all made it and now the parents have gone back to their breeding pond and left the 7 offspring on the urban pond.
Beauty is in the eye of the beholder.
I It could be that it just works on some devices but not others. I think at least it works for some people rather than not working on anyones at all that’s the main thing. its a really nice video with the swans and the cygnets I find the cygnet at the beginning of that line that’s sitting on the ground and shuffling instead of walking quiet funny. What about you? What do you think of the video Simonali sent?
I used VLC Player to remove the audio so that should play it. No one wants to hear me talking about the wobbly one at the back!
What's weird is that the video was 15 seconds originally and the audio removal process seems to have halved that?
Been back today and tidied up the drug den area as, where it had been cut down, there were pieces of string all over the floor and I didn't want any future cygnets to try and eat it. I've put as much as I can in the blue bag but can't take it away as I have poochie with me again.
Although I'd already fed them, these two were patiently waiting behind me for more, then rudely turned their backs on me when I got my phone out to take their picture. That's gratitude!
A couple more pics of them enjoying the food I brought them.
And what happens if they frogmarch them to the other pond again and last year's mob are still hanging around?
I recall many years ago living in Slough and there was an arm off the Grand Union canal that ran into the town. It was very quiet as it was a dead end that stopped right by a very busy road but a pair of swans nested there right by said road every year. Personally, I thought they were crazy!
