  • A flock sighted here on the Isle of Lewis , it most definately must be a waxing year . I don't know who was more taken aback me or the chaffinch who was screeching its lungs out at this awesome mini (25) invation . I was within 7feet of them . The Rowan was stripped inhalf an hour , including the fallen fruit . --then they were gone .

  • I live at Deepcar and i've just spotted up to 6 waxwings in a neighbours tree! Taken some pics but due to weather, they aren't very good. I wondered why all the tits were going crazy! Hoping to see lots more as we've quite a few rowan trees nearby.

Dare to be different and set your own pattern. Live your own life and follow your dream.

    Hi fruitbat

Not too far from Barnsley so fingers crossed, I've friends who are watching out for me.

One of the best places is supermarket car parks where berry bearing shrubs and trees are planted.

This could be a warning for a bad winter

  • Waxwings are primarily irruptive when there are food shortages (ie a poor berry crop further north and east) rather than in response to particular weather conditions, so a big Waxwing arrival doesn't predict a severe winter (though of course we could get a severe winter anyway!).

    Hi-

sometimes the Waxwings arrive on the east coast here and then just pass right on through :(

Cor AL . Send em down south - we've got lots of berries. I'm dying to see one. Shame about the camera.

  • Beautiful birds.

I doubt they will get as far west as Lancashire, but I have my fingers crossed.
