Good morning
Just seen a sad thing, one little swallow flying quite slowly (not the usual quick dart), i think it is a young swallow - has it been left behind? What a shame i don't suppose it will survive the winter?............I am guessing all the swallow have gone by now (i am in Aberdeenshire).

I wouldn't worry too much... there is still a steady stream of Swallows heading south. There have been plenty of Scotland records from Birdtrack, including from further north than Aberdeen, over the last few days :)

I live next to RAF Notholt on the edge of Greater London.
Just looked up to see if it was going to rain and spotted about 10 martins very high up, feeding on what must have been insects. Then as a group headed off southwards very quickly.
Was surprised to see them so late in the year as I saw them congregating on the telegraph wires in central France in mid August !

Thanks for that - maybe he will be okay :)
Hi Cally
We still have a lot flying around at the moment so fingers crossed there is still time...
Robert
He should be OK. They can travel many miles in just one day and his internal compass will take him to Africa even if he doesn't know where he is heading. I'm sure he'll soon catch up with others of his kind. The journey back in the Autumn is always a much more leisurely affair than in the Spring.

Thanks to Robert and CJ for cheering me up....i didn't know that swallows would migrate even on their own. I know its all instinctive, but i always thought they all gathered together and went, any late comers would be left behind!
Thank you everyone
Hiya Cally

We saw several here yesterday and i was a bit concerned. So pleased to have spotted this thread.I feel so much better now
An optimist sees the beauty of the complete rose.A pessimist sees only the thorn .
One swallow is left in my garage (in Wales). I was really worried so searched the internet for advice and found this site. Thank you everybody for your information and reassurance.
Best wishes
