I've finally seen a hoopoe - I knew instantly what it was, having been teased by pictures of this bird since I was a child. What I wasn't expecting was to see it in Hastings this weekend, Saturday 28th August. Are there any other similar sightings around the country at this time of year? I gather from the RSPB website that it's pretty rare...
Hi Jules
Congratulations! I think it's pretty rare to see a hoopoe, and I've definitely never seen one. It's a bird that I aspire to see one day. Sadly Hastings is a bit far for me to travel, not being a 'twitcher'! LOL
Well done you though. :-)
Oh and welcome to the forums. I hope you enjoy yourself here. :-)
Best wishes Chris

I didn't go for it in the end - went to Grove Ferry instead. It was quite tempting though! Still hope to find a UK Hoopoe of my own one day :)
