Autumn migration

Hi,

Migration is the raison d'etre for many british birdwatchers - GB is situated ideally for migrants from all points of the compass.  People don't realise just how much stuff we get compared with say Germany .

The UK is real rich in birdlife and folks think its all boring wee brown birds we have here .

They need to open there eyes Im thunlin  :D

Interesting thread.  I will get up to speed and work out what is what with bird species.

I am sure that the weather has had a huge impact on bird species at the moment.

The weather would have confused many species due to the fact it has been hot and stuffy.

We shall see what materialises now

Yep:- got a busy schedule for the weekend. A couple of 03.00am starts Sat & Sun.

Ringing all weekend, hopefully we will get a few migrants before they move on!

Well the heavy downpours and thunderstorms have crossed the country and with a NE component :))))

Black Terns, Wood sands, Little stints  Curlew sands etc should be piling in. Could be some seabird movement down the east coast and maybe some odd scandinavian migrants this weekend:))

I think I'll go out birding..........

Went birding looking for migrants along the coast. Saw Bonxies, Arctic skuas,Manx shearwaters, Gannets, yellow wagtails, Whimbrel, Wheatear, Green,  Wood and Curlew sandpipers, Little stint, Spotted redshank,

The wind had veered south and then east. Not enough North for a decent seawatch :(

Just read on Des Mackenzie's blog that he found a juv Ruff at the Round Pond in Kensington Gardens! A first for 'inner London'.
