Flocks of large gulls frequently fly in V-formation. As winter approaches flocks (which will have a high proportion of dark juveniles/first-winters) are starting to build up, and the birds move between roosting and feeding sites at dawn/dusk. Cormorants also fly in Vs, though they have quite goose-like silhouettes.

I saw a flock of about 20 Terns flying over the field out the back of my house this morning. Never seen them around here before, pleasant surprise.
