So, anyone out there lucky enough to have seen a Wryneck this week! Apparently a massive influx of them and we've had a few reports come in and even a few photos taken in people's gardens!

But it was Wrynecks that really stole the show of the 'standard scarce'. A fine showing of over 125 birds throughout the week included some genuinely impressive totals from coastal sites. Spurn, for example, eclipsed its previous best day total with a mind-boggling 27 seen on 25th, 13 remaining the following day! Blakeney Point — generally Norfolk's Wryneck hotspot — chipped in with a not-too-shabby count of ten on 25th, while fours were at Landguard (Suffolk) on 24th and Gibraltar Point (Lincs) on 25th. A handful of inland birds included at least one at King George V Reservoir (London) on 28th and another trapped and ringed on private land on Salisbury Plain (Wilts).
If you would love to see a Wryneck then this weekend could be a good chance!
There were a couple of wrynecks at Minsmere last Sunday. I wasn't lucky enough to see them but some other people did. The crowd which gathered between the East Hide and the beach was a dead giveaway to their location!
Our herring gulls are red listed birds. Think about that the next time you hear some flaming idiot calling for a cull of them.
Haha! You can always tell when a rare bird has been spotted! I have seen one once before, fantastic birds!
It was quite embarrassing - I've never seen one and had no idea of what I was looking for!
Oooh, that's one bird I REALLY would love to see! Off to Cornwall on 8th Sept so hoping I'll be lucky there! :-)

I glimpsed one in Norfolk at the weekend - the sort of very brief views that wouldn't be enough to officially submit a record though, and if I hadn't been lucky enough to see quite a few before (both in the UK and abroad) I definitely wouldn't have been able to say it was one!
I didn't get a chance to get to the KGV reservoir (which is local to me, and where I do a WeBS count) on the day the Wryneck(s) was(were) seen in nearby scrub.

There's been a few in Durham, managed to dip/miss them all though, and despite hours out didn't find one either. They're amazing birds, I hope anyone who hasn't seen one manages to catch up. I think there is meant to be more Easterlies this weekend, so I would recommend a visit to somewhere on the East coast, probably Spurn!
I was at LNG on 27th Aug per chance and the noticeboard recorded the sighting of a wryneck, but no appearance for me
