Saw this beautifuly bird in my Cheshire Garden, after looking on forum am i right in thinking it is a fieldfare ?

What a wonderful world :))

  • Yes, you are absolutely right it is a fieldfare. They are coming increasingly into gardens during this severe weather searching for food such as berries.

    It looks as though you photographed this through a telescope. Well done.

    hi Ilovebirds and welcome to the RSPB Forum

    Yes, I agree with TeeJay.   It is a fluffed up Fieldfare

    Love the spy hole effect with your photo {smile}

  • Hello ilovebirds. I always expect to see fieldfare in a group. It is surprising how many singles we are hearing about in the last few days. Lovely photograph.

  • There have been several comments on the forum about the number of Fieldfares about this winter, they really do seem to be everywhere, they tend to keep themselves to themselves, but the hard weather appears to be bringing them into the gardens often as single birds, not sure if they are breaking away from the larger flocks deliberatley to seek out food, or if they are just part of a small flock passing through, have seen flocks of all sizes from about 4-5 up to several hundred.

  • Hello TeeJay

    Thank you so much for replying to my question about the fieldfare.  I can't believe you answered so quickly. I have always been a bit wary about forums and have never been on one before.  But after looking at the RSPB forum I am sure everything will be good. I am really excited about it.

    You were absolutely right about the photo, it was taken through a telescope (well binoculars actually) !

    Thank-you

    What a wonderful world :))

  • Welcome to the forum ilovebirds! I'm sure you'll love it here! Everyone is really friendly! It's certainly the best forum I've ever taken part in! Well done for managing to take a pic through bins! Fieldfares are handsome birds!
