It looks like a heron to me, if you have a pond with fish in it, it's probably empty now.

Grey Heron for sure! i have one land on a roof in my street every now and then and it also lands on the house next to my mother-inlaws and just looks at the pool! lol

Herons do indeed perch on roofs in urban locations. I've seen them do this on more than one occasion.

Hi, yes I agree with everyone else, grey Heron.
We first had one in the garden in 2006 and I was pleased -until I found that 17 goldfish had gone!
Since then it has come at about the same time every year, haven't bothered to photigraph it since, we did not replace the fidsh, but I saw it catch a poor frog.

Same reply Heron, but I have seen them on rooftops, I have also watched them on the shore in the rock pools with the waders looking for food.
