I am sorting through the hundreds of pictures taken over the summer, I think this is a Sedge Warbler, but not sure, can anyone help? Sorry picture quality not great as it was very much a quick snapshot.
Thanks Gary.

Hi Gary,
Not 100% sure but it certainly looks like a Sedge Warbler to me.

Hi Gary, Nice picture, I would be inclined to say yes. An unfortunate stalk just in the wrong place but I still would say yes! I think! (little brown job strikes again!)

For viewing or photography right place right time is everything. I'd rather be in the right place with poor kit than have the best kit and be in the wrong place.
Hi Gary, I haven't a clue so I'll leave it to the experts - just wanted to say what a great picture.
The necessity of bird-watching is a really good reason for avoiding all forms of housework.
The dust will still be there tomorrow - the birds may not be!
Yes, warblers are for me in the same pot as ducks & gulls as regards ID!! I just wanted to say that I agree with Squirrel! Nice picture!

Marjus, you had me worried for a moment. I wasn't too sure what else you were going to throw into the pot.
Gary, I have looked at our own photographs and I am inclined to agree that it is a sedge warbler.
Hi Gary
Yes, the picture is of a Sedge Warbler. The one thing that sticks out about the picture is that the Bird is sitting in a stalk of Sedge in field of Sedge (hence the birds' name)
Gary: Where was the photo taken - the location etc?
We where at Marston Vale Country Park not so long ago (close to where we stay at Bedford), and met up with a group of BirdWatchers (Country Park Wardens) who took us around the Reserve to point out the best birds for us to see. Hoepfully they are on this Forum, and if you are hello from me!
Anyway the Sedge Warblers where seen around about Spring time. One of the birds we where lucky to see was the Sedge Warbler. It was very obvious to us what we here seeing, and hearing the rasping call. The bird in question flitted about the Sedge stalks making little twitterings, and you will be able to hear on the RSPB Website (look up Sedge Warbler calls - links do not work well on my Computer). The bird movements where of a jack in a box. Continuious dancing about
The bird appeared over the top of the Sedge and them they disappeared once more. It appeared that the bird is dancing all of the time and interesting to watch.
So one is they are limited to the conditions that they like, and two is they stick to their favoured environment that they like, and rarely are seen elsewhere.

Kathy and Dave
Hi ,
I think this is the link that Blackbird suggests.
http://www.rspb.org.uk/wildlife/birdguide/name/s/sedgewarbler/index.asp
I will need to work out the links on my own merits, so I will ask one of the moderators on the RSPB.
If any of the moderators know the best way to resolve the link issue all the better.
I will place this question on technical difficulties arera on the RSPB too.
