I was lucky enough to witness a Sparrowhawk make a kill in my garden today, but I can't tell if its male or female! I'm usually pretty good with ID, but I can't really see the colour on the back clearly. For a size comparison, the bird init's talons is a House Sparrow. Thanks!
Hi,
I just had to post this photo I took today 22 Dec 2009, I am sure this is also a sparrow hawk, a constant visitor to our garden. When I read your post about the white spots just thought I would post this. I hope the experts don't prove me wrong. We are fairly new to bird watching.

looks like a male sparrowhawk - no problems :)

Hi Watchthosebirds and welcome to the forum. That's a great photo. Thanks for sharing it.
The necessity of bird-watching is a really good reason for avoiding all forms of housework.
The dust will still be there tomorrow - the birds may not be!
Welcome to the forum Watchthosebirds! What a great looking bird! Thanks for sharing!
