Hi everyone,
the last few days I have a bird in the shrubs behind my garden that whistles...... Early morning (4.00) and at dawn, long +loud +even, no "runs" in the melody... I have tried to identify it through listening to various online birdsongs but no success so far . Any suggestions? I have no clue what it looks like as the shrubs are so dense and only have heared it .
But it is really loud- can hear it through closed windows while watching telly in the evening or get woken up by it in the morning...nice though;-))
Sunny ;-)
Try grasshopper warbler
It's both what you do and the way that you do it!
You cannot fly like an eagle with the wings of a wren. William Henry Hudson (1841 - 1922)
wren?
Let's make a difference!

have a listen to some starling song, they make all kinds of weird noises as well as imitating other noises.

Birding is for everyone no matter how good or bad we are at it,enjoy it while you can
We have one too! We saw it in the tree and hedge a couple of days ago too. It was small (robin sized ish), slender and had a definite dark cap, although we couldn't really see what colour its plumage was. It was a long, VERY loud whistle repeated a lot. Have been hearing it for about a week - I think it sits on my chimney pot, because it's very loud in the sitting room sometimes! Have been all over the identifier websites, and cannot find anything that sounds like it. Defo not grasshopper warbler or starling though. Any other ideas, anyone?
Try and get a recording of it, makes it much easier
I think it is a starling... at least I finally saw one hopping about in my backyard. Thanks everyone for the good ideas.
