Can any one help..?

On an Acer branch in the garden i have found a larvea of some sort , have been through loads of books but cant find it relating to anything in this country, living in the hills of Wales where it has been more than wet recently am sure its british, have tried to sort a photo with out any success. It is almost 13/4 inch long when straight, a mid moss dirty green  about a 1/4 inch thick its attached by a single   hold from the top also looks quite slimy, but that might be because of all the rain,  I know its not agood description but the best i can do, thank you.

  • Hi nan,

Well, without a photo its a tad more tricky, but my first thought was a moth or butterfly pupae of some kind. If you are having trouble getting the camera to take a photo, make sure its on macro settings (usually a symbol that looks like a flower) and if it won't focus, put something large (like a sheet of paper or card) behind it to give the camera something to recognise.

You said how long it was "when straight", does this mean it is curled up? Maybe it could be something like the pupae of a speckled wood butterfly?
