High pitched call

Hi, can someone help identify this sound, I live in Ireland and heard it when I was out for my early morning walk,it was in flight and seemed to be doing circles over the area. Really high pitched whistling sound that I have never heard before.8475.Voice 002.m4a

  • A bit tricky to hear clearly. Was the bird thrush sized? If so it might be a Redwing. They make a very high pitched "tseee" call when flying. They are arriving in the British Isles now from their breeding grounds in Iceland and Scandinavia.

Here's a couple of examples of their flight calls from xeno canto.

    What do you think?

  • Yes that second clip was very like it. It was still quite dark so I couldn't see it but it was flying around overhead for at least 10 minutes. I've never heard them here before, thanks so much for this.

  • They typically migrate at night so that would fit with it being still dark. Bit of a lucky guess on my part.Grinning
