Can anyone help identify this bird song recorded in our garden. It has been here over a week.

Hi Julie,
As strange as this may be it sounds like a Northern Bobwhite (Colinus virginianus), a type of new world quail native to North America. Where abouts do you live in the UK or perhaps you live in the USA.
I believe that they have been imported to Europe presumably as game birds. This recording was made in Slovenia.

Am I on the right track or is it back to the drawing board?

Be good if you could see it Julie & grab a quick pic!
Thanks Wendy, I hadn't remembered that thread.
I only came across it when googling!
Hello TeeJay, thank you for replying. It’s sound very similar. We listened again to your bird and ours but not quite sure it is the same. I live near High Wycombe in Bucks. Wendy, we have too many gardens and trees. My husband has been trying to locate it with the binoculars. If it is a quail that wouldn’t work. It doesn’t show up on Merlin or Smart Bird ID apps but if it is from America they wouldn’t be listed on these apps. Thank you may be still a mystery.
If you activate the American package on your Merlin app it might well pick it up - just member to deactivate it afterwards otherwise you'll get all sorts of odd id's

Hi TeeJay and Wendy, we have been listening again to the Northern Bobwhite calls on YouTube and we are sure that is what it is. Thank you for solving our mystery bird.
Thanks for the feedback. If you see it or manage to get a photo please let us know. Glad to be of help.
All praise to you TJ and your amazing ability to match calls to birds most of the time ... it's definitely a gift!
