Hello.
Would be incredibly grateful if anyone could help to identify this single-note call that we're hearing repeated through the night - every few seconds, for an hour or so at a time.
Just one 'coo'; slightly beepy / electronic-sounding (thought I'd left the fridge door open or something like that to begin with!).
We live in South Wales - next to a river, not far from forest, so we do get some unusual sightings.
Bird in question sounds reasonably large.
Thanks!
A recording would help thanks

Hello Catlady,
Thanks for coming back so quickly - alas, I've not been able to catch it with my phone.
Will keep trying, though, and post a recording if I manage to get one!
Hello again!
Managed to record some of the call - hope the attached file works.
Again, would be really grateful for any ideas.
Cheers,
Tim

Hi Tim, first thought was owl, which? Seeing as you mention living near to the forest, could be a fox? I am by no means an expert, hopefully others will reply. Happy to be corrected.
Thanks again, Catlady - appreciate you coming back so quickly!
I did wonder about foxes, actually, so I'm pleased you think that's a possibility! And we definitely have owls around abouts, although I'm not sure which kind - and to my very basic ear (and limited research ability) this sounded different. I'll put that back on the table as an option, though.
Bumping this up for you as posts get lost with the Osprey threads
It is very similar to the second call on this clip of the sounds of Little Owl - given that owls make contact calls through the night I think I'd go that way rather than fox
