What else sounds like a quail?

I heard a sound at 6.30am today whilst it was still dark. I have heard the sound before, but in the summer.

It sounded to me like, "click d click" and sounds similiar to the recording of a quail.

I believe quails don't arrive until the spring, so is there another bird which sounds similiar?

I live on a farm, so on one hand the habitat would be suitable for a quail. However last year, I never got to see the elusive bird so was never able to discover what it was.

Do you live near a quail farm? Have you looked up Japanese quail and what they sound like?

I haven't heard of anyone breeding quail but know there are people keeping chickens and ducks a few fields away. At one point I had some guinea fowl feathers turn up in my garden, so may be someone keeping chickens has had some pet quails too, and there was an escapee.
I have listened to a few japanese, chinese quail, but the sound isn't the same.
