Can someone confirm what this is? I think its a red kite, this was seen over open fields high above the R. Adur

This was seen this morning as barely a speck in the sky. It was floating in a very lazy way over open fields. When I got the photos home and looked at them I realized this was quite different to the buzzard I had also photo'd. I have a few photos which show its plumage quite well. Apologies for the slight focus issues, this was using a 300 mm lens. It has something held in its claws but I couldnt get any better definition.

and here is the buzzard that was also in the area. Coloration, and tail shape are quite different. Thank you for any help, comments you can offer.
