Low oowoowoo

830am this morning I heard a bird call that was low and repeating of oowoowoowoowoo i've searched various identifying sounds and can't find it. It sounded like a person saying woo/whoa in a low deep voice and repeating.

  • Woodpigeon perhaps?

    (Pardon the Scottish Accent)

  • Not a woodpidegeon. Lower and only noise was a repeating woow. I recorded myself mimicking the sound but don't know how to upload it.
  • I'd have thought wood pigeon, they are quite early callers.

You might find British Bird Song quite helpful, and start with the more likely garden birds before venturing to the more exotic calls.

To upload a sound file, try the following

First, you need to select "Use rich formatting" located at the bottom right of the textbox.

Using the tabs at the top

    1. Select "Insert"
    2. Select "Insert image/video/file"
    3. Where it says "From" select the source, "Web (URL)/File upload/Community search"
    4. If you use "Web (URL)", then all you need to do is insert the link
    5. If you choose "File upload" then upload a file from your device or computer in the normal way by selecting the computer/device drive, folders and file.
      1. NOTE: If you are uploading a photo, you can change the image pixels at this point before the final upload.
    6. If you choose "Community search" using the search tool, search for the relevant posting.
    7. When you've made your selection, select "OK" to post/upload, or if you've selected the wrong file/link etc, then select "Cancel"
    8. To select the next file or link, start the above process again and for subsequent uploads.

That sounds very much like a wood pigeon, (or possibly feral pigeon), even though it was your voice.

  • Brave of you to do that, Lucy. The only bird I can think of that approximates to your description and voice recording is the Stock Dove. Here's it's typical call.

    Anything like what you heard?

And listened to the various clips. It sounds like it was a male. Thank you :)

I think it was a male stock dove. Such curious woo-ing! Thank you :)
  • A few years back there was s Eagle Owl that escaped from its owner and the call of that was like your first description. Anyone in your area lost an Eagle Owl? Blush
