Can you identify this bird from its call (possibly cage bird)?

Bit of a short ssmple and a lot a background noise but I think it is a Thrush or Blackbird

Thanks Seaman, you may well be right. When pushed the ident app did say blackbird once. I clipped the sample just to help people find it, otherwise there was just a minute or two of background noise and occasional birds and then that sound. Very distinctive and surprisingly consistent.

I'd personally go song thrush if it was short bursts like that.

Thanks Gareth, and you too might be right. It sounds a bit "forced" like thrush. In my experience though song thrush repeats short simple phrases several times in succession. My mystery bird produces a single phrase, then nothing for whole minutes. It never repeats at short intervals.

I think you're right. Listening to the audio on YouTube some of the sounds are very, very close. It sounds the sort of bird that might well be kept in a small garden too, hence it always sounds to be in the same place.
I think that's mystery solved.

Thanks for that info Coturnix, we get Common Quail locally most summers but they only seem to make the traditional "wet my lips" call as described in some i d books. A local shoot has some Hooded Quail they released but they seem pretty quiet except for some muttering noise
