Sort of like the common blue damselfly, only it's white

I've not seen this before - it appeared to be hatching!

Our herring gulls are red listed birds. Think about that the next time you hear some flaming idiot calling for a cull of them.

Lovely photos Clare, and nice to see the nymph ,mid-phase of growth to adulthood.
The whiteish damsel could be the female blue, which are considerably paler than the males.
The fly, most likely greenbottle.
