Flock of fast birds with white/grey undersides

Over the past week or so, I’ve seen a flock of birds race by several times. They fly so fast that I can’t even identify them. So I was hoping that someone else would know what I was on about.

These birds fly in a flock of around of 7-10, pretty low down (probably just above house height) and have dusky white/grey undersides. They fly very fast almost racing each other. Also, they didn’t look duck shaped but more similar sized to pigeons

That’s what my father said, I mean there’s lots of fields and farms so I guess they could definitely be racing pigeons. What species of pigeon are used as racing pigeons? Thanks Ellis

Feral pigeons are mainly racing/loft pigeons that have gone wild ie feral birds. They can be a great variety of plumage. They are the city pigeons that hang around town centres but prefer the rustic way of life. They are not popular with some farmers because, like Wood Pigeons, they feed on the green sprouts of the new crops.

That's the trouble with this birding lark Ellis you never stop learning, I like a few others on here have been birding for many years and we are all still learning new stuff. As we tell the grandsons when they have a little witter about school "learning is fun"
