Thanks for the very quick suggestion of a little grebe for my poser yesterday! We're up here in the highlands without my ID guide (poor planning). We saw the Slavonians again this morning:
but also a small songbird which has me stumped... any thoughts? (All pics by my teen daughter.)
Thanks in advance!
Congratulations to your daughter on taking cracking photos. I think your small passerine is a juvenile Whinchat. For me the giveaway is the white/pale supercilium which is already showing well. Lets's see if others agree. Lovely shot too of the gorgeous Slavonian Grebe.

Thanks so much - she does like her photography! Looking through the memory card she'd also snapped this -- which we had thought was a wheatear, but then I don't think we've ever seen whinchat before.
Here's another of hers from the reserve this morning, a completely unexpected encounter!
Fantastic, that's an adult male Whinchat. Very envious as I've never managed a shot of one as good as that. Beautiful deer (Fallow?) also.
Mystery sorted then, thank you again! I'll have to read up on Whinchat. Really not sure about the deer - thought maybe a young red? Very far from my suburban experience! Here's another pic if it helps anyone.

Could be. We don't get many Red Deer in Berkshire. Perhaps one of our Scottish or north of England friends could help

Cheers Marc, thanks for the feedback.
