I've never seen a juvenile shelduck before, but I was wondering if this could be one? The only this is, this had bright orange legs, whereas the pictures I've seen of juvies had much paler, almost greyish legs?
I am rubbish with ducks! I just can't seem to learn them. I am trying, honest guv!
I have never seen one and it does look like one but will see what the experts say Kiera.

No, Kiera, I don't think it is although I can see why you might have thought it was. In any event you wouldn't find a Juvenile Shelduck around at this time of year.
Here's one I photographed back in June.
I reckon it might be a so called Manky Mallard. The curly tail is a good indication of its origins. They come in sorts of shapes, sizes and colours as you will see if you click on the link.

Thank you so much TeeJay! It looks a bit like the pictures of the 'Indian Runner Duck' on the page you send me (but not spot on). I have never heard of 'Manky Mallards' - I shall be looking out for them in future :)
