I saw this bird today, hunting in ancient woodland in Sheffield. I'm not sure whether it's a kestrel or a merlin? It was pretty small - no bigger than a slim pigeon. Any help with ID much appreciated!
Hi Kiera, looks very much like a Common Kestrel to me, either a female or juvenile, they are quite similar, lovely bird, a favourite of mine!

That is a lovely photo of the Kestrel Kiera, and if you can find Wendy's page you will see many photos of her favourite bird over the years. (Kestrels in the Quarry)
