Thank you.

Hi retepj
Welcome to the RSPB Forums - enjoy yourself
Your bird picture is a Male Wheatear, and a great picture by the way.

Thanks to 'Al and 'Blackbird' for the replies. Wheatear is what I had originally thought at the time but when I got the picture back it just seemed not to have the orange flush to the breast usually described.

hi LittleOwl
You could be right there.
There is a large difference between the birds sizes - Wheatear is 6 inches and the Great Grey Shrike 11 inches.
It is difficult to see the size of the bird compared with the distance that the photo was taken.
The bird in the picture lacks the rust orange colouration on its chest as a Wheatear would normally have.
Have you any more pictures of the same bird, Peter?
No, not a Wheatear. I agree with a Great Grey Shrike. It would help if we could see the beak more clearly as a Shrike has a bit of a hooked bill.

I do have a couple more pictures but no clearer as I didn't have a telephoto lens to hand. That said however size would indicate it to be Wheatear rather than Great Grey Shrike - I would have certainly said it was nearer to 6 inches.
This beauty however taken at about 25 metres on the same day did not need identifying.
Hi Pipit
So it is a Great Grey Shrike - not my day with ID-ing birds LOL
This a picture of a Woodchat Shrike taken in Menorca a week ago, and it is a small bird of just over 7 inches - yes that hooked bill is very prominent.
Interesting
Another fabulous picture, Peter.
The scenary is beautiful, and the camera work excellent
Thank you for sharing

Cracking Peregrine image! the original post imo is certainly a male Wheatear.
