Hi
I'm new to this forum and a novice at bird identification. I would be grateful if somebody could please help me identify the following two birds - both photos taken at Mersehead last week. The first I thought at the time was a female Yellowhammer but now that I've looked at the photo I think I might be wrong - anybody know?
same bird from the back (I think- will teach me to start taking notes of individual photos again)
This is the second bird - the only thing I can think of is a Greenfinch - but looks far too yellow (however, it was facing the early morning sun) - any ideas?
I would be grateful if somebody could help me with these.
Many thanks
Maggy

Hi,
you are correct the first 2 photos show a female yellowhammer. Note the bill colour and the rufous rump.
The second bird is a male greenfinch. :)
