Hi,
This is my first time on the RSPB forum.
I hope someone can enlighten me.
I am staying on a caravan site on the shore of Loch Ness. (No. this is not a shaggy dog story).
I was sitting by the side of the lake (sorry. Loch) drinking coffee (Not beer)
when a bird landed in a bush not more than 15ft away from me.
at first i thought it was a blue tit but realised that it was greenish yellow not blue.
It had a black head so was it a coal tit? I looked it up in my book and saw under coal tit that there is an Algerian / Tunisian Variety. Could this be the bird I saw? it was definitely not a great tit or an English (or Scottish coal tit.
Has anyone any suggestions what it may have been.
Guillemot Guy.
Hi and welcome to the forum.
Are you sure it was a tit? Your description sounds very much like a male siskin. Have a look in your book to see what you think.
Nice spot to be by the way.

it wouldnt have been an algerian coal tit as they are not migratory- it was possibly a young great tit- they are greeny yellow when they leave the nest, though it's a little early in the season.

Thanks TJ.
Can't be certain but don't think it was a Siskin.
Didn't have time to take a photo of the bird and the old mind is not what it used to be.
Actually it wasn't ever much good.

Hi S,
Hadn't thought about "Baby" Great Tit.
Probably was.
I was getting all excited about seeing a new Bird.
I'll have to keep my eyes peeled to see if I can spot it again.
Thanks.
