Hi,
wheatears are one of my fave bird families :) This is a Spring plumage female Northern Wheatear.
Note the diffuse brownish mask, greyish brown upperparts and dark brown wings.:) The buff wash on the breast doesnt extend onto the belly so we can rule out the Greenland wheatear subspecies.
There was a full treatment of Northern wheatears in Birdwatching magazines March issue :)

Got my sexes mixed up so that it looks that the set of pictures have some major diferences.
So Shane's pictures are of a Female and your own a Male Wheatear
Can i thank you all very much, i can see the difference now with the black cheek patch on the male, I'm still chuffed to have seen one let alone get a pic thanks for the compliments on my pics Kathy and Dave :o)
