i took these photos at the weekend. the bird was moving about from branch to branch and singing. but it isn't a chiffchaff because this warbler had a nice little song.
Please could you help me identify this warbler because you all give some great advice.
Hi wildlifegirl21
I'm not very good on warblers, but this could be a willow warbler
Best wishes Chris

I am so rubbish at identifying warblers but I keep trying. I think it's a Reed Warbler but not too sure!

Well, I'm going to disagree with both the two previous contributors. I think it's a Garden Warbler.
Note the fairly short stubby bill in the first two pics and the face mask. It's got dark legs and I think a grey patch on the side of the neck although that is difficult to see.
You say you heard it singing. Did it sound a bit like a blackcap but going on a bit longer?
Compare it with this photo I took which is definitely a Garden Warbler.
Regards
TJ

Im gunna go with blackbird and say willow warbler!
Hi I think it is a willow warbler, I can see a touch of red in its legs, definately not dark legs. Also the tail is slighlty forked. If you look at a garden warbler the tail is slightly rounded. There is also a tinge of yellow from the throat to the breast and a slender bill.
Cheers

I'm not going to let on either but I'll help by counselling against Garden Warbler. The main distinguishing feature of which is..... there's no distinguishing feature. On wildlifegirl's fine photos you can see an eye stripe and definite patches of yellow. Garden Warblers look a bit like Blackcaps which have left their black caps at home only possibly even more nondescript.
Every day a little more irate about bird of prey persecution, and I have a cat - Got a problem with that?
Great photos, you were very lucky to get so close !
Hi,
the bird is olive above and whitish below with yellow on the breast sides- note the long primary projection and pale fleshy brown legs ( garden warbler has blue grey legs normally) a good supercilium and dark eye stripe ( garden warbler has a grey wash to the neck sides ) The short undertail coverts rule out acrocephalus warblers :))
