Hi All,
I'm encouraged by everyone's knowledge on these Forums!
But these might stretch your knowledge:
Unhelpfully they were both taken whilst on a visit to London Zoo a few weeks ago.And I couldn't see any name plates anywhere to ID them.
As always your help is very much appreciated.
Best wishes, Graham

Hi Graham
May I suggest the first is a White-crowned Robin Chat and the second a Robust White Eye:
The White-crowned Robin-chat (Cossypha albicapilla) is a species of bird in the Muscicapidae family.( Old World Flycatchers) It is found in Benin, Burkina Faso, Cameroon, Central African Republic, Ivory Coast, Ethiopia, Gambia, Ghana, Guinea, Guinea-Bissau, Mali, Niger, Nigeria, Senegal, Sierra Leone, Sudan, and Togo. Its natural habitats are dry savanna and subtropical or tropical moist shrubland. .
Robust White-eye (Zosterops strenuus), also known as the Lord Howe White-eye or Robust Silvereye, and locally as the "Big Grinnell", was a species of bird in the Zosteropidae family. It was endemic to the lowland forests of Lord Howe Island, east of Australia.
Cheers
Pipit
Blimey Pipit. How on earth did you find those. I'm impressed. Why on earth do you need us to identify wheatears for you. LOL
Having given me a lead I looked up the Zosterops family. Are you sure it's Zosterops strenuus which may be extinct. I found this image by Googling.

Haven't a clue really but it looks more like Graham's photo. What do you think?

TJ

Hi TJ, yes you are correct.
Pipit's post is for an extinct bird, Zosterops strenuus. I should have read the whole post? and realised that the strenuus is extinct.
Well done to the pair of you.

Nature Is Amazing - Let Us Keep It That Way
That probably explains why the description I posted is in the past tense!!
I love a challenge, and being a retired librarian I'm pretty good at internet searching!!
Turns out there are dozens of the little blighters- see http://ibc.lynxeds.com/family/white-eyes-zosteropidae
Well done Pipit. I like a challenge too but I must admit I didn't where to start on this one. So are we agreed then that the second bird is a Montane White-eye (Zosterops poliogastrus). [Sounds like a nasty stomach complaint.]
You were absolutely spot on with the first one.
Hats off to the pair of ye ... I had no clue of eather of them ... beauitful birds though ...
Thanks for putting them up.
Bet eather one of those would cause a stir on nomeones local patch lol

Nothing to be sorry about. I'm highly impressed that you tracked down the family.
Graham's either in total awe or else he knew all along and was just testing us.
Ne'er fear, I'm still here!
Bit busy yesterday, had stitches out; visited the Dental Hygienist; took Ocado grocery delivery and of course had to vote!
Actually, the Polling Station was in my local Pub so I had a few pints, just to be sociable of course! And the day seemed to just slip away!
LOL - if these birds were in my local patch here there would be a hell of a stampede!
Thanks to Pipit for the IDs - marvellous work!
So now I would like to know if you guys know the IDs for these - they've been bothering me for a few years now:
That would pretty much have named all my collection!
Once again, thanks for all your help.
PS: Have to dash now as I promised my Local I would help in the clearing up from yesterday :)
