Blue tit with extra long beak spotted on my feeder - any thoughts?
Telling too many lies?
BB
Hi Gillo, i personally have never seen this but a few days ago somebody posted a picture of a great tit with the same strange extra long beak.
I believe it is from the beak not been aligned properly and then not being ab;e to wear down as it would usually when the upper and lower mandibil rub against each other.
Welcome
Hi Gillo,
I've personally never seen one with a beak that long! Although have seen a number of Blue Tits and Great Tits with the same problem more than any other bird.
Is it a regular visitor to your garden? I should imagine if food is easily accessible this little one should be ok. Oter than that I'm not really sure what you can do.
Hello Gillo,
We had a blue tit with a similar problem late last year. It seemed to be able to deal best with fat balls so I made sure there was always plenty out for it. I saw it most days for a while but I haven't seen it for a few weeks now. I like to think I gave it a chance though!!
cheers

Why is there never enough time?

You should definitely call him Pinnochio.
I have never seen anything like that before. Perhaps he should start feeding in water with the waders!!
I hope he is OK and manages to feed properly. Please let us know how he gets on.
Welcome to the forum by the way
Cheers, Linda.
