H i there,
Saw 6 of these this morning, 3 on my rooftop and another 3 flying by. They're quite obviously Doves, but are they just known as doves or are they known by a more specific name. Also, the only information I know of these is that they are quite often released as gesture of peace or love. Surely though, they are fairly common wild animals? Any information would be really appreciated. Well, here they are! :)
Again, thanks for any help with this. :)
Regards
Steve
I won't be happy until I've got a penguin down :)
Hi Steve,
These are domestic Ring-necked Doves Streptopelia risoria (white phase), aka Barbary Dove. There is, however, much debate on whether they actually constitute a "good" species or just a hybrid. Either someone keeps them nearby, or they're escapes.
Hope this helps,
MC:-)
Hi there MC,
Thanks for this.
Did wonder whether they were domesticated or wild. This answer that perfectly so thank you.
Hi,
obviously some sort of domesticated pigeon- but could they be fan-tailed pigeons? People do keep them :)

Hi Seymouraves,
Must admit I wouldn't know the difference between the two so you'd have to ask a higher authority than me! :) But as either way they seem to be domesticated, I just hope they make it ok in the real world.
