I saw a bird on the 16th April in mixed pasture/woodland in Devon that I cannot identify. When I saw it from the back running in front of the car I thought it was a partride. Same size and shape. However when it stopped I saw it clearly. It had a mid-brown to black on the top half of it's body. A black beak and legs. The bottom half was white with irregular thin black streaks about 4cm long running longwise along the body. There were no bold stripes or eye rings so it was not a red legged partridge. It was not shy and stopped to look at me. Not in any of my bird books or RSPB bird identifier.
