Hi Gingerowl,
The first pic is indeed a yellowhammer but I think the second is of a female reed bunting. Nice pics!

Hi gingerowl
I think that they are both Yellowhammers.
I would normally never disagree with an identification by MarJus because I know that she is an expert and is much better at identification than me. But MarJus if you blow up that 2nd picture, I think it is more likely to be a Yellowhammer than a female Reed Bunting, because of the dark streaks on the head, and the pale wing streak that is absent in the Reed Bunting
Best wishes Chris

Thank you Chris, that's very kind! But I'm certainly no expert!! The second one didn't look 'yellow' enough to me but then perhaps it's because it is in the shade!
Here's a pic of Mr & Mrs, (except Mrs is shy unfortunately and looking away!) but her 'undercarriage' is quite yellow:
I'll leave it to the 'real' experts here! lol!
Hi
the second photo is a dull female yellowhammer, note the face pattern and the smudgy underpart streaking :)

Hey farmer, farmer, put away the D.D.T now. Give me spots on my apples, but leave me the birds and the bees, please!
