Hi guys
Over in the field today I took a few shots of this raptor, thinking it was a Buzzard.
Now I've blown it up I don't think it is. Anyone know it's correct identity?
Best wishes Chris

Hi Chris,
That second photo is beautiful, and so detailed. I love his fan tail.
I will keep on keeping my eyes peeled.
Cheers, Linda.

Hi Kezmo
Thank you for your kind comment. I still haven't seen one up close either. He was far enough away to make me mistake him for a Buzzard.
Thank you everyone who identified him and said such nice things about him :-)
What an awesome picture, isn't it lovely when one of your own pictures comes out so well you can't stop looking at it.
I love taking pictures of the birds I see but they don't always come out to well, but every now and then one does and it makes me happy.
Loving it Woodpecker.
Hi Mrs Taz and welcome to the forums :-)
I'm as much amazed that I even saw a kestrel and didn't even know it until I got home as anything else.
I took 36 photos while I was out this morning.
I am very critical of my own photographs and I think that maybe 3 of them are good enough to keep.
Yes it does make you happy when a good one appears. It makes it all worthwhile. :-)
Thanks for your fabulous photograph Chris.
What a wonderful bird the kestrel is.
I was driving along a narrow country road near our house a few weeks back when i first saw one. He was eating some sort of carrion on the road, when we came around the corner he took flight. I, as you did Woodpecker, think it was a buzzard at first as they are quite common here on the Lleyn Penninsula, but then i realised it was smaller than a buzzard and had grey feathers. I was so excited by what i had seen i did some research on-line and indeed found it was a kestrel. I take regular walks around the area now with my camera just in case i see him again!
Happy Days :))
