Hello,
My favourite bird is the goldfinch and I am desperate to have them visit the feeders in my garden. For several months I’ve had a couple of feeders out of sunflower hearts (the feeders have 4 & 6 perches) and I also have a nyjer seed feeder. I can hear them often from my back garden and see them sometimes in a tree a few doors down from my house but am yet to see them visit my feeders. Does anyone have any tips please?
Thanks,
Laura
Little update on my Goldfinch quest after moving the feeding station to the centre of my lawn; I've had a pair visit my feeder 3 days in a row now! Hopefully they'll be regular visitors now and perhaps bring some friends & family :-)
That's good news We had the first of the fledglings yesterday evening, which was nice, as the adults are only sporadic visitors
Fantastic news! They're really messy eaters, aren't they? ;)
So far I have three adults and last week two fledglings (!), which strikes me as quite early.
I hope you get some small ones soon!
They are indeed messy eaters, and it worries me that the half bitten seeds they drop could spread diseases. I'm currently using sunflower heart nibs which seem to be cutting down the mess - and waste - considerably
I personally haven’t really seen much mess from them. I have plenty of other birds like pigeons and collared doves that are eagerly waiting for any scraps under the feeders.
