I usually have dozens and dozens of sparrows and other birds in my garden but I cut a small section of the beech hedge a few days ago and the entire bird population has disappeared; am feeling truly devastated - are they likely to come back or have I lost them?
I am having same problem I have quite a number of various Finches visiting my feeders but over past 3-4 weeks have not seen any House sparrows I am in DH4 AREA. Plenty of trees and garden shrubs.
Probably a combination of post fledgling moult for the parents, and abundant natural food sources. A cold snap will likely bring them back
