Could be Giant or great horned Owl, just make ou longish nose and eyes, certainly not our beloved Barnie me thinks.

There are a few Great Horned Owls flying free in UK in various locations, maybe vagrants or escapees ... perhaps the OP will divulge where she saw it? There are a few threads about this owl & I have suggested informing the County Recorder about this!
