Hi allI just bought a house with some pretty big beech trees very close to it and had a tree surgeon do a report. He advises around 4m crown reduction on two trees ( they are around 25 metres tall ) and suggested doing it at the end of June.I did ask about nesting birds but he said he wouldnt expect the 2 trees to have nests.Informed opinions much appreciated. Thanks in advance
I believe it is rather odd to pollard a tree in summer. The RHS website says bests time is between autumn and early spring. This is what I'd normally expect.
I'm no expert, especially as to what birds will nest in tall trees, but birds do have several clutches throughout the year if they can.
Why the urgency to reduce the height of the trees? Is the crown diseased or is it endangering a building?
90% luck, 5% field craft, 5% camera skills.
Thanks for your thoughts Angus,The trees are very close to the house ( around 7m) hence the need to do the crown reductions reasonably soon
