Finches wings aren't overlapping

Question

I have a male goldfinch in my yard thats wings are not overlapping like every other goldfinch. I'm not sure if it's something I should be concerned about. Been monitoring him for a week, he flies perfectly and is eating regularly. Anyone know why his wings look like this? Any insight would be greatly appreciated:)

Not really familiar with American Goldfinch as this is primarily a UK based forum. 
 It appears to be molting from winter to summer plumage ..... could this be a factor? More likely its got some physical abnormality but just guessing really. 
 If you were in the UK I'd suggest you contact the British Trust for Ornithology who are knowledgable about various bird abnormalities. I don't know whether there's an equivalent organisation in the US. Cornell Lab for Ornithology or the Audubon Society perhaps ??
