I often see buzzards where I live on the North Norfolk coast, usually just 1 or a pair. Yesterday I saw a group of 9 soaring quite high. Are these migrating birds or is there another reson for this?
Buzzards are normally considered resident in the uk so I don’t think there likely to be migrateing. Buzzards can sour quiet high sometimes. They might of been takeing advantage of thermals which is a column of warm rising air it takes less effort to fly when they do.
Food or the hunt for it is often a good reason for Buzzards grouping together. Another reason is a family group but I think it is too early in the season for that unless it is a family together from last year
