I was down there last night around 8pm and saw what i believe to be a great blue heron. Unfortunately it was spooked by dog walker lbefore i got the phone out. Heron no question and what really resonates was the size and almost “metallic” blue sheen. Definitely worth a look down there for locals enthusiasts.Any other local sightings to collaborate?
Nothing mentioned on Wiltshire Bird Sightings page
There have been a few Glossy Ibis spotted around and about, which have a bit of a sheen about them in the sunlight, but not necessarily there specifically

I would suspect grey heron having looked at the likelihood.
It could be the evening light and shading has tainted the heron plumage, something I see quite often when out and about with many species, at various times of the day.
