Blue tits nest each year in our camera box. Last 2 years have both been disastrous, virtually all chicks never made it to fledging. Would like to feed supplementary live food and was wondering if calci worms would be OK. Soaked dried would be easiest but happy to go for live if more appropriate. Loads of other food out daily so adults well fed.
If your not sure if it’s ok to give it to them or not it might be a good idea to use the ones that are ok and is usually recommended. The RSPB usually recommend Mealworms aswell
Even though Mealworms are deficient in Calcium Mealworms are a good source of protein which is what the chicks need. As long as there are other things for them to eat that have other ingredients that help balance out there diet then I think mealworms would still be ok.
But it might be a good idea whatever type of worms/larvae you choose remember to be aware like with most foods there is a risk of Salmonella poisoning so try to only provide small amounts that get eaten quickly to reduce the risk Salmonella
