Nightingales in the north east???

Hello,

I’m not one for looking the bird life usually, but say a pair of small brown backed, cream fronted birds in the garden today that I’d not recognised before.
I googled them and they look to be nightingales. Very distinct separation between the colour on the top & bottom of the bird.
But Google says they shouldn’t be this far north. Could they be something else?
There was also a robin in the garden & they were of similar size, if not a little smaller than the robin.

I’m in Teesside.

Thanks

  • I'm down in N.Yorkshire and we only have the odd historical record of Nightingale, from your description I would say maybe Chiffchaff or Willow Warbler at this time of year was the best choice. You can easily tell the difference if you hear the call the Chiffchaff calls its name which may help

Birding is for everyone no matter how good or bad we are at it,enjoy it while you can

  • Ah, no problem. Thanks for that. After googling it you may be right as I think it had a stripe across the eye. It looked like a pair so I’ll keep my eye out & see if they nest.

    Thanks for your help.
