Crested Tit

A few years ago I saw a Crested tit perched on wire cause there was telephone lines near the path In Stroud on the way to Selsley common one of the Cotswold hills in East Gloucestershire. I didnt realise at the time that It was considered uncommon or rare here In Gloucestershire so I deleted the photo to make space cause I thought I will be able to see it again. but Iv never ever seen it again after that. Do you think its still worth submitting the unusual sighting to things like i record, i Naturalist and other things that go to research and conservation even though it’s been a few years since Iv seen it?

  • I’m afraid without any evidence such as a photo it wouldn’t be accepted. Unless anyone else has seen that Crested Tit. I’ve never heard of any sightings of a Crested Tit in England before. I may be wrong! If I am wrong sorry! Do have any chance of seeing Crested Tits you would probably have to be in one Scottish Caledonian Forests where the Crested Tits nest and breed.

  • It was an unusual sighting. It was a tit but it had a proper big crest on the head. It didnt look any thing like Blue tit great tit coal tit Marsh tit or willow tit at all. And it was the size of a crested tit not any bigger or smaller. If you find crested tit on this website it was completely identical. I saw him from the back, side, and head on. When I tryed to find the Id to match what I saw when I had the photo before I deleated it. Photo fitted it entirely. I didnt read about its conservation status though until later on so I didnt find out it was uncommon until much much later after I had deleated it. I think a crested tits appearance really stands out from all the other tits you get in England. If I didnt deleate the photo I would of submitted it already or if I still wondered if its still worth submitting I would of added the photo while asking if it’s still worth submitting. but its one of those Ids your 100 percent sure of. And if I had the photo you would of been able to identify it as a crested tit right away . If I knew it was uncommon I probably wouldn’t of deleated it. I dont know what it was doing in Stroud. Something must of happened that caused him to make an unusual visit. Or it could of been the weather or something at the time. Since its uncommon It could of been a one off sighting of vagrant one potentially
