Ask an expert What kind of duck is this?

What kind of duck is this?

Spotted this back in July in Virginia, but Im not sure what species. Google says its a female swedish blue(chocolate swedish) but this species is rare and domesticated so im not positive this is the right duck since the one I spotted was in the wild.

Is this confirmed or something different?

Certainly has the look of a feral domesticated mallard but I couldn’t say which breed(s)

If you spotted it in USA, you may find more help on an American site, as this is predominantly UK based, although I'm sure some of the folk here will be able to hazard some educated guesses (I'm not one of them unfortunately!) :o)

To me it looks a bit like what, here in the UK, we unkindly call "manky Mallards ". Our waterfowl have the bad habit of cross breeding which results in some strange looking birds.
