Unknown Nest in Birdbox

Hi,

I put a birdbox up in my garden 2 years ago, and as of yet there has been no sign of any bird activity. I went out to take a look today and noticed what looks like a nest of some kind, hanging from the inside of the box. It's a ball shape, probably the size of a snooker ball with what looks like a little funnel/hole at the bottom pointing downward.

I'm assuming it's a wasp nest, but im not sure so I was hoping there would be someone able to give me some guidance.

looks waspy- not 100% I get them in cupboards in the garage sometimes- They use a different place each year.

To me it does look like a small wasp nest but maybe some sub species. It is certainly a smart looking nest.

I would say it looks like a wasp nest to me. When wasps fly back to the nest they fly in a straight line so if you see wasps flying from flower to flower it’s not heading for the nest. If it is a live nest be very careful if you intend to remove it or get a professional in to remove it. I knew a fisherman who used the grubs and wasp cake for bait and he thought he had killed all the wasps in the nest and when he tried to remove it he got badly stung so beware.
