Jackdaw attack

Question

About 20 jackdaws were attacking a young one In the road this evening. Picked young one up apparently uninjured but shocked. In cat carrybox now with hay, water and fledgling seed. If it's still alive in morning I'll take it to the local wildlife centre. My question is WHY would the others attack it?

we have lots of jackdaws down our street and i have only seen this twice , 
though it seems to be one large male trying to kill a young small jackdaw while all the others egg him on, 
bit like a school playground fight, 
lots of noise not much injury . 
i don't know why this happens, it seems as if they are expelling it from there community, 
they do seem to be a very social bird meeting up in flocks of 40 to 50 flying up and down our street. 
maybe its a punishment or just a show of dominance , 
i also would like to know why this happens, there is so much noise and it attracts alot of attention so 
i am sure someone must have an answer?
